Context

The former living room of this family home had interesting but heavy volumes: dark exposed beams, a monumental fireplace occupying an entire wall, and a general atmosphere marked by a lack of luminosity and fluidity.
The objective was clear: lighten the space, bring in contemporary light and rethink the fireplace as the focal point of modernity.

Approach & design

The project had three main focuses:

1. Light as a common thread
   • Creation of a false ceiling incorporating a perimeter LED system, for soft, even, indirect diffusion.
   • The lighting reveals the architecture, erasing the heaviness of the old beams and highlighting the fluidity of the circulation.
2. A fireplace reinvented
   • Replacement of the old, massive stone fireplace with a minimalist, three-glazed model.
   • Clear mineral rendering to emphasize verticality and create an elegant contrast with the walls.
   • The fireplace becomes a contemporary sculptural volume, while retaining its role as the heart of the living room.
3. Creation of a closed office
   • Installation of a double door to transform an adjoining area into a dedicated workspace.

Ambiance & materials

• Colors: a soothing palette of beige and taupe tones, contrasted by mineral finishes.
• Materials: waxed concrete walls, solid wood furniture with graphic lines, soft, warm textiles.
• Lighting: the combination of the LED false ceiling and decorative lights (crystal suspension and accent lamps) creates an evolving play of light that can be adjusted according to the time of day.

Results

The living room has a timeless modernity:

• a bright, clear atmosphere,
• a contemporary fireplace as centerpiece,
• an integrated office space with no loss of fluidity,
• redesigned, harmonious traffic flow.
