Shyakito" project

A reinvented children's bedroom with mezzanine and bespoke furniture.

Location: Chavannes-de-Bogis, Switzerland

Year: 2024

Surface area : Children's bedroom

Type: Residential

Mission : Design and creation of a customized space with mezzanine, library staircase, built-in storage and office area.

Context

This children's bedroom had a rare asset: a high ceiling. The challenge was to exploit this volume to create a room that would evolve, be playful and practical, while offering the child a unique place to sleep, play and work.

Approach & design

The project has three main focuses:

  • Optimizing space: a bespoke mezzanine, accessed by a library staircase, frees up the floor for an office and play area.
  • Durability: a layout designed to accompany children at every stage of their growth, from school age to adolescence.
  • Made-to-measure joinery: integrated furniture (cupboards, shelves, niches) made from solid wood, combining robustness and aesthetics.

Ambiance & materials

  • Wood: structure and furniture in warm, timeless stained oak.
  • Colors: a combination of deep green and matte white to energize the space while remaining sober.
  • Details: openwork railings, coloured niches, enhanced natural lighting.
  • Spirit: a playful, graphic universe, designed as a contemporary tree house.

Results

The Shyakito project offers a unique room, tailor-made to grow with its occupant:

  • an intimate, secure, elevated sleeping area,
  • integrated office and play area,
  • multiple storage options that combine practicality and design,
  • a warm, playful and progressive atmosphere.
