A first appointment
As an interior designer, my trip to Marrakech has been a constant source of inspiration, discovery and unforgettable encounters.
From the outset, the lively maze of the Medina guided my steps towards a unique refuge, the Riad N'Swhere my stay was much more than just a stopover. It was an immersion in the soul of Marrakech, where architecture, textures, fragrances and beautiful woodwork merged with traditional Moroccan generosity.
A door at the end of a covered alleyway and, as soon as you cross the threshold, you're drawn into the sparkling atmosphere of the Riad's central patio, an artistic canvas created with architectural wall textures, where the aromas of orange blossom and cinnamon perfume every corner.
Surrounding the patio, the spacious rooms reflect a great attention to detail and authenticity. Their sumptuous solid wood doors, veritable works of art, add a grandiose note to the ensemble. The zellige shower rooms particularly caught my eye. This local craft, with its precise geometric patterns, adds a touch of refinement and respect for heritage. Each zellige tile is a jewel, reflecting light and life; it transforms a bathroom into a sanctuary of relaxation.
Seeking to decipher the magic of zelliges
Here we are, in search of a zellige designer! A visit to Popham Designon the outskirts of Marrakech proved to be captivating in many ways. The atmosphere is hard-working and resolutely modern, yet still in tune with ancient craftsmanship. The enthusiastic welcome I received was highly professional and extremely warm. They even offered my son the chance to create his own cement tile from scratch, an experience he loved!
Popham Design excels in the art of customized cement tiles, offering a multitude of choices with a thousand "templates" already available to inspire our creations. Their expertise also extends to those small traditional glazed ceramic tiles (in a wide range of colors): zelliges. Each piece is an artistic, hand-crafted work of art. Composing zelliges to form geometric patterns will bring an authentic, handcrafted touch to any interior design project.
Between their exceptional expertise and their contagious energy, Popham Design is undeniably an unavoidable choice. This encounter with a world where design and tradition blend harmoniously has not only enriched my future projects, but also left a positive imprint of conviviality and passion.
Tourism in the Medina... but not only
It's well known that getting lost - and finding oneself - in the winding streets of the Medina is an adventure... It's a living canvas of the very essence of Marrakech, of its diversity. As we go, we slip among craftsmen working with metal or wood as they did centuries ago, or we are drawn in by the cheerful bustle of merchants and the colors of their wares, or unfamiliar smells tickle our noses.
Then, suddenly, at the corner of a passage, an unsuspected treasure: the DIFFERENT Concept Storea world of creativity and originality. This well-established concept store offers magnificent fashion pieces, bold ceramics and delicate oud fragrances, as well as a welcoming terrace bathed in bright colors and flooded with sunlight. This unexpected discovery marked our stay in Marrakech with a touch of novelty and elegance, making shopping an experience far beyond our expectations.
And my favorite local design
Just hand-painted wooden tables, colorfully patterned local handicrafts and creativity that charmed me!
Each of these oriental side tables tells a unique story through its meticulous details and vibrant colors. Made with masterful craftsmanship, these pieces reflect the talent of local artisans and the rich cultural heritage of the region. The subtle marriage between the functionality of a side table and the exquisite Oriental aesthetic makes these creations choice pieces for any design enthusiast.
Each acquisition will become a tangible connection with the artistic soul of the local community!
Marrakech, through the eyes of an interior designer, reveals an artistic and architectural richness that transcends borders. Between the Medina, the narrow streets, the zelliges and the local design, this city will remain a rich source of inspiration for my projects.
