As an interior designer, I'm constantly on the lookout for innovative solutions that combine aesthetics, durability and adaptability. Microcement is one of those materials that transform a project through its finesse, discreet elegance and exceptional versatility.
What is microcement?
Microcement is a decorative coating based on cement, resins, additives and natural pigments.
Applied in a thin layer (generally between 2 and 3 mm thick), it creates a continuous, seamless surface that can cover a multitude of surfaces: walls, floors, stairs, worktops, furniture and even showers.
Why do I recommend it for my projects?
1. Minimalist, contemporary aesthetics
Microcement offers a very pure visual effect. It blends perfectly into minimalist, industrial or wabi-sabi interiors, but is also discreet in more classical or bohemian settings. The absence of joints creates a visual continuity that enlarges space and accentuates light.
2. Versatility of application
This is one of its greatest assets. Microcement can be used for :
in a bathroom (including shower area),
on underfloor heating,
as a kitchen worktop,
or on an existing staircase.
It adheres to many substrates (tiles, concrete, plaster, wood, etc.), making it an ideal alternative to heavy demolition or renovation.
3. Strength and durability
Properly applied, with a good waterproofing and finishing system, microcement is resistant to moisture, stains and daily wear and tear. It is often used in stores, hotels and high-traffic areas, which testifies to its robustness.
4. Easy maintenance
Its smooth, seamless surface limits the incrustation of dirt, making it easy to clean. Neutral soap and a damp cloth are all that's needed for daily cleaning. However, aggressive bleach- or acid-based products should be avoided to preserve the finish.
5. An infinite choice of textures and colors
Microcement comes in a wide range of colors and material effects (more or less shaded, matte or satin, rough or honed). It is therefore entirely customizable, allowing me to modulate it according to the visual identity of the site, natural light or adjacent materials.
Precautions to take
Microcement requires precise know-how: each coat must be applied with care, respecting drying times. Incorrect application can lead to cracks or waterproofing problems. That's why I only work with specialized craftsmen trained in this technique.
What's more, it's not a "cheap" coating. Its price is justified by :
installation time (5 to 7 days on average),
the technical nature of the work,
and customized results.
Microcement is much more than a fashion statement: it's an elegant, technical answer to the challenges of contemporary interior architecture. Whether you're looking to create a zen-like atmosphere in a bathroom, add character to an entrance or transform an old floor without breaking the bank, microcement embodies the ideal blend of innovation, beauty and durability.
